Hon. Abubakar Lado who is a Legislator representing Suleja/Gurara/Tafa Constituency of Niger State has said that education is a core tool for national development.
Lado said this today in Suleja during his presentation of scholarship to 12 students in his constituency to study nursing, midwifery and physiotherapy at the NOIDA International University, India.
Four will study physiotherapy from 2015 to 2019 while eight of the students are to study general nursing and midwifery.
The lawmaker said the scholarship was intended to train people, especially in the medical profession, in order to have sufficient health personnel in his constituency.
Hon. Lado said during his campaigns, he went round all the polling units and most of the issues he received were on healthcare delivery.
“We are lacking health personnel in most of the communities.
“So, I felt we should give opportunities to the younger ones to study health-related courses in order to help the people in their communities”, he said.
The legislator, who said that the recipients were selected based on merit, advised them to be focused on their education and ensure they were good ambassadors of the country.
He also pointed out that the scheme, would be a yearly event.
Miss Maryam Talatu, One of the beneficiaries expressed delight over the scholarship and promised to study harder to make the sponsor, her parents and the community proud.
“We thank Rep. Lado for doing this honour to us, it is not easy. We have been in this Suleja for long, and many people were in his position in the past, but they couldn’t do this for us.’’
Some other beneficiaries are Miss Fatima Abubakar, Aisha Ismail, Maryam Garba, Rashida Abubakar, Zinatu Ibrahim, Maryam Isa, Aisha Abdullahi and Maryam Abdulhamid.
Others are Mr Abubakar Musa and Musa Abdulmuminu, who are to study physiotherapy.
